Beach's owner writes:
"Beach had not been right since he was ill in winter 2009/10. I followed veterinary advice, I tried everything to fatten him up - various hardfeeds, haylages, supplements, pre and probiotics, but nothing helped. I started to be even more concerned in the summer of 2010 as he still looked so poor. Beach had become very stiff and lame through his right hind leg to the point that his foot could hardly be lifted to be trimmed. The stiffness worsened and it was believed to be arthritis as he is 21 years old. I thought it could also be his age as he was so lifeless and didn't want to be involved with the herd or with me. He seemed like he was in a 'fog'. A few of my friends mentioned the results they were seeing with their horses overall wellbeing after starting to use Thunderbrook Feeds so I contacted Debbie Carley the nutritionist and after lots of questions, she suggested a revised diet for Beach. I started Beach with the Thunderbrook Feeds on 20th August 2010 after taking a set of photographs. Beach has been on the feeds for 4 weeks when I took the second set of photographs on 18th September 2010. He has been transformed and I cannot believe the difference. He is back to his usual cheeky self which I haven't seen since 2009! He is no longer lame or stiff through his right hind, so we can trim his foot easily and he is tracking up beautifully - even my husband noticed the way his movement has changed! He no longer looks 'foggy' or sore, he is playing with the rest of the herd. I am also feeding substantially less, getting better results and saving a fortune in feeds and supplements! Beach was a fussy eater and would often leave his feed. Not any more! He truely loves his dinner now! I can't thank Debbie enough - I have my 'not so old' Beach back! We are still going from strength to strength, Beach is continuing to gain condition and we are now riding out and enjoying a few canters. I will take more photos and videos and keep you posted on Beach's progress.
Thank you once again,
Sam and Beach
Beach's condition stays on despite the winter temperatures!Update - 8th April 2011
Beach has been doing exceptionally well since being on the Thunderbrook feeds. Beach and my mare Trinity both live out 24/7/365 and have both been on Thunderbrook feeds since I started Beach Back in
August 2010. They were both on ad-lib meadow haylage throughout winter and I only upped Beach's Basemix to 1 mug and increased the Organic Bran to half a scoop whilst it was really cold.
Beach was in work up to end of October 2010 but after the clocks went back I had limited riding time so he hasn't been in any work until recently. I had hoped to develop Beach's muscle mass and tone
but this was just not possible due the limited time over winter, so now that the clocks have gone forward we have started lunging and long reining to get Beach fit and muscled up for 2011. It will
take time but it will be worth it for him now that he is 22 years young!
Beach did drop some condition after I needed to chemically worm him after a high worm count but after a course of the Gut Restore he is now regaining the weight he lost. With
hindsight, I wish I had thought to worm him whilst feeding the Gut Restore powder as I think this would have helped him. Beach will have the Gut Restore next
time I need to chemically worm!
More Photo's to come soon.... once he has finished molting as he always looks a mess this time of year!
Thanks again Debbie!
